Life on Hold

Through this adoption journey I have felt like my life is on hold. I've been afraid to make plans for weekends out of town because we might be travelling soon. In anticipation of the 3 week return trip to Russia, both Bill and I have been trying not to take any extra vacation, etc. So, having the 4th of July off and being able to hit the road last weekend was a god send.

Originally we were going to stick around town. After all, we had Abby's friend Spike staying with us while his family was away on vacation and we hadn't made a reservation for Abby at the Holiday Barn (kennel). Not only was the upcoming weekend the 4th of July, it was also the beginning of Bill's family's annual summer vacation at the Outer Banks. Once again, due to our upcoming trip to Russia, we weren't going to be able to join them. But, we really needed to get away so we decided to go to Va Beach for the 4th to hang out with my friend Maria and her family and then we travelled to Frisco on Saturday to spend Sat/Sun with Bills family before returning home-to work on Monday morning.

It was a great weekend. We had a blast hanging out with Maria, Chris and their 3 wonderful children. We played at the pool, relaxed, had great food (thanks Chris!) and even saw fireworks. Its always great to spend time with good friends and it was a fun way to spend the 4th.

On Saturday we travelled to Frisco, which took us about 5 hours from Va Beach. We hit a fair amount of traffic and Frisco is almost all the way South to Hatteras. Even though our time was short, we enjoyed the beach which mainly consisted of eating, reading, laying around and chatting. It was just what we needed. Boy, was it hard to get up at 4:30am on Monday to return back to Richmond. We made it back in about 5 hours which was pretty good time.

So now we're back to reality and waiting. I have no news regarding our court date and I'm trying not to have any expectations...that is really hard!

Hopefully we'll hear something soon.
